But I do not count my life of any value to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the good news of Gods grace.  Acts 20:24 (NRSV)

WHAT'S NEW

Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church

August 24, 2008

WELCOME TO TIMBER RIDGE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.  Whether you are a visitor, a long-time member, or fall somewhere in between, it is a joy to be together to worship God on the Lord’s Day.  We’re glad you’re here!

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT after you are settled or during the morning announcements to sign the Visitor/Member cards.  Members may make address or other changes or prayer requests on the reverse side.  Please drop the cards in the collection plate.  Thank you for your help!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 31ST, WILL BE A 5TH SUNDAY SERVICE HELD AT FAIRFIELD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AT 9:00 AM.  THERE WILL BE NO SERVICE AT TIMBER RIDGE ON THAT SUNDAY.

THE ANNUAL SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC will be held on Sunday, August 31st at 3:00 p.m. at the home of Beth Swink.  Please bring a covered dish.  There will be volleyball, badminton, and swimming available.  We will close with a vesper service around a bonfire (and s’mores!).  Everyone is invited!

HANDBELL PRACTICE WILL RESUME on Wednesday, September 3rd at 6:00 p.m.

THE CONGREGATION IS CORDIALLY INVITED to the wedding of Larry Smedley and Kim Ramsey on Saturday, September 6 at 2:00 p.m.  They would love for everyone to join them in celebrating the beginning of their new life together!

THERE WILL BE A CALLED SESSION MEETING on Sunday, September 7 at 10:30 a.m.

BIBLE STUDY WILL RESUME on September 23 with a study on Revelation entitled “The Triumph of Christ”.  Class will meet at Fairfield every 2nd and 4th Tuesday.

THE MEN’S BREAKFAST will resume in September, the last Saturday of each month at Fairfield.

Timber Ridge Annual Fall Festival will be held October 18 2008 with preparation the week prior. Proceeds to go to the Local Food Banks. Mark us on your calendar and please plan to help. We can not continue to provide this much needed community service without your hands on assistance. Preparation the week prior will begin Tuesday with getting the apples, Wednesday cooking and cutting the chicken for the Brunswick Stew, Thursday, peeling the apples, Friday taking the apples to the cannery, and cutting vegetables for Stew. Saturday help will be needed for setting up the fire, stirring/ cooking the apple butter and stew, work in the kitchen, bringing Baked goods for the Bake Sale, selling drinks/food, putting apple butter and stew into jars/containers and CLEAN UP.  Folks will be needed to assist with packing unsold white elephant items and general clean up. So, as you can see LOTS of work to be done and many hands are needed. The committee currently needs new canning jars quart size with lids and rings. We will gladly accept the new jars or money to purchase them. Please see Judi Clark, Sylvia Henry, or Alice Strecker to donate. White Elephant (yard sale) items are needed. We accept any household items, furniture, or just about any other items except clothing. If you have questions or want to donate please contact Charlene or Beth Armstrong @ 261-1819.  Brunswick Stew items that will be needed are money for chicken/containers, potatoes, onions, lima beans, corn and tomatoes. These items will be needed the few weeks prior to the festival and donations can be made to Harriet Fix, or Betty Lucas. Bake Sale items are needed for the day of the Festival. We will appreciate any baked goods, breads, pies, cakes, cookies, jams/jelly, pickles, relish, or home made candy. Youth members will be sought out to help sell these items.

During the winter quarter, the Adult Sunday School class held a study on the books of prophets in the Old Testament.  Over and over again, the prophets continued to hear God’s call to some specific task in his work.  Over and over again, the Adult class felt the call to redevelop our Sunday School program at Timber Ridge.  As a step in this process, the Christian Education committee and the Adult Sunday School class would like to ask the congregation to pray daily this week for the upcoming Sunday School year and consider participating in this part of our church life.  There will be a meeting on August 27, at 7:00 pm for all members of our congregation to discuss the Sunday School program at our church.  Please plan to attend and bring your ideas on how to make this program a meaningful part of your life.  The meeting will be held in the community building and refreshments will be served.

On October 5, 2008, at the conclusion of the Worship Service, the church will conduct a national survey regarding church life.  This survey will be used by our minister and Session to better direct and plan activities for our congregation.  The survey will take about 15 minutes.  If you will not be here on that Sunday and would to take the survey early, please see Julie Lipscomb or Rev. Moore.
