Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) www.pcusa.org

Live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.  Ephesians 5:2 (NRSV)

OFFERINGS

The 4 cents/meal offering is received the second Sunday of each month and is collected by the children of the church as part of the children's message that day.  TRPC has participated in this program for over 20 years. It is designed to be a sacrificial offering with each member "sacrificing" some portion of each meal  and setting aside 4 cents/meal.  TRPC sends 65% of this to the Presbyterian Hunger Program.  Over the years the remainder designated for local use has been used to support the Neriah Food Bank, the Rockbridge Christmas Basket Program, The Rockbridge Area Relief Association, and the local homeless shelter.  More than $25,000 has been received for this offering over the years.  Grown children who once participated in this offering have helped lead the children.

TRPC receives five special offerings each year, along with the four cents/meal Offering each month.

  1. The One Great Hour of Sharing is an ecumenical offering received each Easter.  The funds are used throughout the world by Church World Service and other organizations to fight hunger and disease, provide educational opportunities and self-development of people and assist refugees.
  2. The Mothers Day/Fathers Day Offering is received on one of these special Sundays, depending on their proximity to other offerings.  (I need to look up what this goes for)  In addition, TRPC provided Mothers Day cards through the Networkers Malaria Prevention Program to raise funds to purchase mosquito netting and health education for expectant and newborn mothers in Malawi in 2004.
  3. Pentecost Offering is received on or around Pentecost Sunday.  These funds go to various programs to help youth around the world.  The church keeps 40% for local use.  The funds for 2003 and 2004 were used for the local Shop for Tots program and the children's clothes closet at the local elementary school, respectively.
  4. Thanksgiving Offering is received during our joint worship with Timber Ridge ARP Church on Thanksgiving Eve.  The offering supports the local Weekday Religious Education program.
  5. The Joy Gift Offering is received in December and is used to support ministers and their spouses in retirement and to support formerly ethnic colleges.
