Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  John 14:6 (NRSV)

STILL HE WALKED

He could hear the crowds screaming "crucify" "crucify"...
He could hear the hatred in their voices,
These were his chosen people.
He loved them,
And they were going to crucify him.
He was beaten, bleeding and weakened... his heart was broken,
But still He walked.
He could see the crowd as he came from the palace.
He knew each of the faces so well.
He had created them.

He knew every smile, laugh, and shed tear,
But now they were contorted with rage and anger...his heart broke,
But still He walked.
Was he scared?
You and I would have been
So his humanness would have mandated that he was. He felt alone.
His disciples had left, denied, and even betrayed him.
He searched the crowd for a loving face and he saw very few.
Then he turned his eyes to the only one that mattered
And he knew that he would never be alone.
He looked back at the crowd, at the people who were spitting
At him, throwing rocks at him and mocking him and he knew
That because of him, they would never be alone.
So for them, He walked.
The sounds of the hammer striking the spikes echoed through
The crowd. The sounds of his cries echoed even louder,
The cheers of the crowd, as his hands and feet
Were nailed to the cross, intensified with each blow.
Loudest of all was the still small voice inside his
Heart that whispered "I am with you, my son",
And God's heart broke.
He had let his son walk.
Jesus could have asked God to end his suffering,
But instead he asked God to forgive.
Not to forgive him, but to forgive the ones who were persecuting him.
As he hung on that cross, dying an unimaginable death,
He looked out and saw, not only the faces in the crowd,
But also, the face of every person yet to be,
And his heart filled with love.
As his body was dying, his heart was alive.
Alive with
The limitless, unconditional love he feels for each of us.
That is why He walked.
When I forget how much My God loves me,
I remember his walk.
When I wonder if I can be forgiven,
I remember his walk.
When I need reminded of how to live like Christ,
I think of his walk.
And to show him how much I love him,
I wake up each morning, turn my eyes to him,
And I walk.

THE BIKE RIDE

When I first met Christ

It seemed as though life was rather like a bike ride,

But it was a tandem bike,

And I noticed that Christ

Was in the back helping me pedal.

I don't know just when it was that

He suggested we change places,

But life has not been the same since.

When I had control, I knew the way,

It was rather boring, but predicable...

It was the shortest distance between two points.

But when He took the lead,

He knew delightful long cuts,

Up mountains, and through rocky places,

At breakneck speeds,

It was all I could do to hang on!

Even though it looked like madness,

He said, "Pedal"

I worried and was anxious and asked,

"Where are you taking me?"

He laughed and didn't answer,

And I started to learn to trust.

I forgot my boring life

And entered into the adventure.

And when I'd say, "I'm scared,"

He'd lean back and touch my hand.

He took me to people with gifts that I needed.

Gifts of healing, acceptance, and joy.

He said, "Give the gifts away;

They're extra baggage, too much weight."

So I did, I gave them to the people we met,

And I found that in giving I received,

And still our burden was light.

I did not trust Him, at first, In control of my life.

I thought He'd wreck it;

But He knows bike secrets,

Knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners,

Knows how to jump to clear high rocks,

Knows how to fly to shorten scary passages.

And I am learning to shut up

and pedal in the strangest places,

And I'm beginning to enjoy the view

And the cool breeze on my face

With my delightful constant companion, Jesus Christ.

And when I'm sure I just can't do anymore,

He just smiles and says...

"Pedal."

THE TRUE MEANING OF THE CANDY CANE

Look at the Candy Cane

What do you see?

Stripes that are red

Like the blood shed for me

White is for my Savior

Who’s sinless and pure!

“J” is for Jesus My Lord, that’s for sure!

Turn it around

And a staff you will see

Jesus my shepherd

Was born for Me!

Many years ago a candy maker wanted to make a candy at Christmas time that would serve as a witness to his Christian faith.  He wanted to incorporate several symbols for the birth, ministry, and death of Jesus.  He began with a stick of pure white hard candy; white to symbolize the Virgin Birth and the sinless nature of Jesus; hard to symbolize the solid rock, the foundation of the Church; firmness to represent the promise of God.  The candy maker made the candy in the form of a “J” to represent the name of Jesus, who came to earth as our Savior.  He thought it could also represent the staff of the Good Shepherd, with which he reached down into the ditches of the world to lift out the fallen lambs who, like all sheep, have gone astray.  Thinking that the candy was somewhat plain, the candy maker stained it with red stripes.  He used three small stripes to show the stripes of the scourging Jesus received, by which we are healed.   The large red stripe was for the blood shed by Christ on the cross so that we could have the promise of eternal life.

JESUS

The prophets said Jesus would be a descendant of Abraham.

As they foretold Jesus in proper lineage was born in Bethlehem.

May we strive to know his will and follow Him.

The prophets said Jesus would bless all nations so swift.

As they foretold Jesus came as our First Christmas gift.

May we follow his example and give others a lift.

The prophets said Jesus, David’s descendant, would justify many.

As they foretold Jesus came for all and for any.

May we include all and spread his love with plenty.

The prophets said Jesus would be born in Bethlehem of virgin birth.

As they foretold without Jesus there’s no Christmas and no worth.

May we share his love with everyone on earth.

The prophets said Jesus would perform miracles so fine.

As they foretold through Jesus’ miracles his love did shine.

May we allow God to use us and not to whine.

The prophets said Jesus would be hated without reason.

As they foretold Jesus came as the reason for the season.

May we with His help be above all treason.

The prophets said Jesus would be betrayed.

As they foretold Jesus knew Judas’ part in the grave where he laid.

May we remain pure as Jesus did when we are afraid.

The prophets said Jesus would be scorned and mocked.

As they foretold Jesus knew what came with all to who him flocked.

May we expect frustration in our lives and not be shocked.

The prophets said Jesus would be hung on a cross.

As they foretold Jesus came to save us from loss.

May we follow him no matter what the cost.

The prophets said Jesus would die with the wicked.

As they foretold Jesus hung on the cross for which he was picked.

May we live lives as Christ did even when we feel licked.

The prophets said Jesus would for his enemies pray.

As they foretold Jesus came to care and with us stay.

May we lovingly follow him day by day.

The prophets said Jesus would be rich in death.

As they foretold Jesus was released as he breathed his last breath.

May we look forward to our reward as we meet death.

The prophets said Jesus would die to forgive our sins.

As they foretold Jesus came and our lives he wins.

May we know Jesus’ peace, joy, and grins.

The prophets said Jesus from the grave would arise.

As they foretold Jesus lives again to people’s surprise.

May we know we will live forever with him and be wise.

The prophets said Jesus would be our salvation.

As they foretold Jesus came for everyone in every nation.

May we show and share His love in joyous celebration.

The prophets said Jesus would be the Messiah.

As they foretold Jesus came and is the Messiah.

May we not miss the message of our Messiah.

NO WORRY, GOD'S IN CONTROL

Would that I could have been there to see the angel tell Zechariah Elizabeth would have a son.

No worry, God was there speaking through his angel telling Zechariah about John the Baptist.

No worry, God is speaking to us.

Would that I could have been there to see Elizabeth trust God’s message she’d have a son.

No worry, God was there to give her peace and assurance that she was in His will.

No worry, God gives us assurance.

Would that I could have been there to see the angel tell Mary she was to be Jesus’ mother.

No worry, God was there to give her peace and assurance He was would be with her.

No worry, God is here with us each day.

Would that I could have been there to see Elizabeth and Mary share their good news.

No worry, God was there to make sure they knew his love and guidance.

No worry, God shows us love and guidance.

Would that I could have been there to see Mary share with Joseph God’s plan for their lives.

No worry, God was there to help smooth the way and give them peace.

No worry, God gives us peace.

No worry, God was there to give him peace and strength.

No worry, God gives us strength.

Would that I could have been there to see Jesus’ parents go to Bethlehem to register.

No worry, God was there to lead them to fulfill prophecy.

No worry, God is here to lead us.

Would that I could have been there to see the innkeeper dealing with all those people.

No worry, God was there telling him to make room for the special child.

No worry, God helps us make room for Jesus.

Would that I could have been there to see Jesus born in that humble stable.

No worry, God was there keeping the special family safe and secure.

No worry, God keeps us safe in Him.

Would that I could have been there to see angels announce Jesus’ birth to the shepherds.

No worry, God was there to quiet their fears and lead them to the newborn Christ.

No worry, God is here to lead us to Christ.

Would that I could have been there to see old Simeon wonder over the virgin birth.

No worry, God was there to ensure Simeon would hold the Christ child.

No worry, God is here to help us believe.

No worry, God was there speaking through his angels to warn them of danger.

No worry, God is here to warn and protect us.

Would that I could have been there to see the angel tell Joseph to go to Egypt.

No worry, God was there speaking through his angel to spare Jesus’ life.

No worry, God helps us through every crises.

Would that I could have been there to see all the miracles of Jesus’ birth.

No worry, God was there proving through God all things are possible.

No worry, all things are possible with God.

Would that I can see God moving in our lives helping us to do His will.

No, worry God is there each moment and all I have to do is open my eyes and believe.

No worry, God loves me and Jesus’ proves it.

LETTER FROM JESUS

Dear Friend,

As you got up this morning, I watched you and hoped you would talk to me, even if it was just a few words, asking my opinion or thanking me for something good that happened in your life yesterday- but I noticed you were too busy trying to find the right outfit to put on and wear to school. I waited again. When you ran around the house getting ready I knew there would be a few minutes for you to stop and say hello, but you were too busy. At one point you had to wait fifteen minutes with nothing to do except sit in a chair. Then I saw you spring to your feet. I thought you wanted to talk to me but you ran to the phone and called a friend to get the latest gossip. I watched as you went to school and I waited patiently all day long. With all your activities I guess you were too busy to say anything to me. I noticed that before lunch you looked around, maybe you felt embarrassed to talk to me, that is why you didn't bow your head. You glanced three or four tables over and you noticed some of your friends talking to me briefly before they ate, but you didn't. That's okay. There is still more time left, and I have hope that you will talk to me even yet you went home and it seems as if you had lots of things to do. After a few of them were done you turned on the TV I don't know if I like TV or not, just about anything goes there & you spend a lot of time each day in front of it, not thinking about anything- just enjoying the show. I waited patiently again as you watched TV and ate your meal but again you didn't talk to me. As you did your homework I waited again you did what you had to do. At bedtime I guess you felt too tired. After you said goodnight to your family you plopped into bed and fell asleep in no time. That’s okay because you may not realize that I am always there for you. I've got patience more than you will ever know. I even want to teach you how to be patient with others as well. Because I love you so much, a long time ago I left a wonder full place called Heaven and came to Earth. I gave it up so that I could be ridiculed and made fun of and I even died so you wouldn't have to take my place. I love you so much that I wait everyday for a nod, prayers or thought or a thankful part of your heart. It is hard to have a one-sided conversation. Well you are getting up again and once again I will wait with nothing but love for you hoping that today you will give me some time. Have a nice day!

Your friend, Jesus

SON RISE

Juanita DeHart

When Christ mumbled, "It is finished"
Many thought the book was closed
But the gift God gave through Mary
Broke the bonds of death and rose

For the tomb was temporary
Gloom and doom was not the end
Just as night precedes new dawning
Sunrise comes and day begins

That's the joy of Easter morning
Midnight mourning lingers brief
Hope returns and lives are lifted
From the hopeless grave of grief

Resurrection demonstrated
God's affection for mankind
Son Rise shines to drive out shadows
Of the sin that dims our minds

Oh how precious, how redeeming
Is God's perfect sacrifice
Debts forgiven: "It is finished"
Easter Son Rise paid the price

JESUS IS PEACE

I refuse to be discouraged,
To be sad, or to cry;
I refuse to be downhearted,
And here's the reason why...

I have a God who's mighty,
Who's sovereign and supreme;
I have a God who loves me,
And I am on His team.

He is all wise and powerful,
Jesus is His name;
Though everything is changeable,
My God remains the same.

My God knows all that's happening;
Beginning to the end,
His presence is my comfort,
He is my dearest friend.

When sickness comes to weaken me,
To bring my head down low,
I call upon my mighty God;
Into His arms I go.

When circumstances threaten
To rob me from my peace;
He draws me close unto His breast,
Where all my strivings cease.

And when my heart melts within me,
And weakness takes control;
He gathers me into His arms,
He soothes my heart and soul.

The great "I AM" is with me,
My life is in His hand,
The "Son of the Lord" is my hope,
It's in His strength I stand.

I refuse to be defeated,
My eyes are on my God;
He has promised to be with me,
As through this life I trod.

I'm looking past all my circumstances,
To Heaven's throne above;
My prayers have reached the heart of God,
I'm resting in His love.

I give God thanks in everything,
My eyes are on His face;
The battle's His, the victory is mine;
He'll help me win the race.
