However that may be, let each of you lead the life that the Lord has assigned, to which God called you.  1 Corinthians 7:17 (NRSV)

FLOWERS

TIMBER RIDGE FLOWER MINISTRY

Most of us are aware that for many years Mary Kemp and Sally Muse have been responsible for arranging and placing flowers in the sanctuary for worship each Sunday.  The worship committee has determined that we now need the involvement of the entire congregation in this ministry. This is a change for this congregation, BUT it is a new way for all of us to be a part of giving to the glory of God each Sunday.  Further, it is an opportunity for members to remember and honor loved ones and special occasions in their lives.  For example, flowers might be placed on any given Sunday to mark the anniversary of the death of a loved one, a special birthday or anniversary, or some other significant event in someone’s life.  It is our hope that many of you will take part in this new opportunity!  Here’s how this will work:

  • A flower sign-up chart will be posted in the hallway by the telephone and members are asked to sign up for one or more Sundays of the year.  You may choose a particular date if you want to remember or honor someone or something special in your life.  You will receive a reminder close to the date for which you signed up.

  • Containers and supplies are available at the church if needed.  These are located in the bell room off of the sanctuary.

  • When your date arrives, you may either pick and arrange flowers yourself in a vase of your own, or one provided by the church, or you may purchase flowers through a florist (again, church containers are available for this if desired).  You are asked to bring your arrangement to the sanctuary by 10:30am on your Sunday.

  • Please note:  arrangements should not exceed 27” in height from the base of the container to the top of the arrangement.  This is so as not to block the Christian symbol on the pulpit parament.

  • If you are placing an arrangement in memory or honor of someone, please call Janet Smith, church secretary, (540-463-3002) or email her by the Thursday before with that information.

  • Call Jane Lucas if you have questions (540-291-2033).

For many years a lovely caring lady, Mary Kemp, with the help of her sister, Sally, shared her love of flowers and floral design talents with her church family at Timber Ridge and all those who worshiped with us.  Whether for holiday or special services, the 250th anniversary of TRPC, or so many, many other worship services she brought the beauty of God's creation into God's house of worship on timber ridge.  Her dedication allowed us to see God's love in the beauty of the flowers she provided and her freely sharing her love with us.  In July 2004, after a long battle with cancer, she went to her heavenly home and is surely gladdening the hearts of her heavenly family in her own special way.
