INDEX of the purposes for the following committees of Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church: ADMINISTRATIONHISTORYCHRISTIAN EDUCATIONCOMPASSION AND FELLOWSHIPPROPERTYWITNESS AND OUTREACHWORSHIP COMMITTEE PURPOSES | The Administration committee has the responsibility for the following: Planning and preparing the church budget Providing for someone to audit the church books Providing a leader for Stewardship Season Providing a monthly treasurer's report Promoting memorial and other gifts and ensuring donors requests are followed Overseeing the pastor, secretary, and treasurer's duties Reviewing the terms of the pastor's call and secretary's contract annually Securing maintenance of and providing supplies for the copier. Securing an interim minister/stated supply in the absence of an installed pastor General planning for the church as committee members work together to help it grow through the encouragement of new members
| The History committee, a sub committee of the Administration Committee, has the responsibility for the following: Intangible History - history as ideas and thoughts: increasing the historical awareness of our people, accumulating a written history, appreciation of history, our continuous witness for God in this community, history as events, written histories, other literary things, newspaper articles, and videos and tapes of events Tangible History - history as artifacts: things seen in museums, articles and items in sanctuary, i.e. communion table, etc., articles and cabinets in vestibule, articles and cabinets in history room, articles and cabinets in first floor hallway, records (sessional, women, old bulletins, newsletters, old plans, lost records, pictures, scrapbooks), cemetery, care and upkeep of stones, recording of data from stones, repair stones, straighten stones, respond to correspondence, publicity, brochure, news articles Funds - cemetery fund for upkeep of stones, history fund, upkeep of history room, artifacts, publicity, various cabinets
| The Christian Education committee aims to strengthen, encourage, and build up the believers at Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church in the knowledge and practice of the Christian faith with scripture as the primary focus of learning and the primary focus of the Christian Education Committee. The following are instruments which Timber Ridge employs to meet in concrete ways the challenge of Christian education: - A Sunday School program offering classes for all ages
- Church school material that focuses upon scripture in a clear, compelling, and applicable manner
- Teachers who know and revere scripture, seeking to model the wisdom, gentleness and graciousness of the person of scripture, Jesus Christ
- Equipment, supplementary material, and training opportunities that contribute to Christian education (this includes audio-visual aids, a good library, teacher and officer training promoting creative and fine-tuned teaching strategies)
- Fun-based activities which conform to the basic aim of Christian education - giving proper attention and regard to the values of scripture - such as Youth Fellowship, Vacation Bible School, holiday celebrations, camps and conference opportunities, and children's programs.
| The responsibility of the Compassion and Fellowship committee is to promote fellowship, friendship and compassion to the church family and community. Activities that are sponsored by the committee include the following: Cards are sent to the sick and bereaved as well as to visitors who attend worship services. Notes are sent to members of the church family for special occasions and/or achievements. Receptions are provided for members and their family when requested upon a death in the family. Covered dish meals are provided to commemorate a special time, e.g. Friendship Sunday. The annual Fall Festival is sponsored to raise funds for the local food bank.
The Compassion and Fellowship committee also maintains and updates the church's telephone tree as well as produces an informational church brochure that is placed throughout our community. | The Property committee is striving to be faithful stewards of God's creation, specifically managing, maintaining, and caring for the physical resources of the church. The property Committee is committed to the following: - Maintenance of church property and grounds such as mowing grass, caring for trees, landscaping, cleaning gutters, removal of leaves and brush, snow removal of parking lots and sidewalks, upkeep of the manse, upkeep of the church and community building, painting, roof repair, general repairs, replacement of faulty equipment or appliances, providing regular inspections of church property for things that may need repairs or upgrading
- Supervision of the sexton to include responsibility for hiring, salary, negotiating contract, and overseeing
- Scheduling the use of the community building to include establishing and maintaining guidelines and fees for the use of the community building and designating a person to oversee scheduling of the community building
- Obtaining appropriate insurance for the manse, church, and community building
| The Witness and Outreach committee works with the members of the church and various organizations to witness to the local and global community through various programs and offerings. We are commanded to give comfort and relief to the hungry, the homeless, the lonely, the ailing, and the oppressed. The major areas in which we serve are: - Global Missions such as support of missionaries, Presbyterian Border Ministry, participation in work camps, global mission conferences, hunger programs, 4-cents-a-meal offering, benevolences, special offerings, social justice concerns, peacemaking, disaster relief, special funds, Relay for Life, Hat and Mitten tree, Operation Christmas Child.
- Community missions such as Community Service Days, Refugee Resettlement, Weekday Religious Education, RARA Helpline, Hospice, Habitat for Humanity, scouting programs, Young Life, Timber Ridge Aid Fund, local food banks, fundraising meals to aid those in need.
In keeping with Presbyterian tradition, our mission is always re-forming as the needs both here and abroad change. The response of each member to the encouragement of the Holy Spirit is greatly appreciated by the committee and the people we serve. The programs in which the members of the congregation participate with their time and talents witness to the community the love and care this church has for people that are sometimes "invisible" to us as we go through our daily lives. | The Worship committee is responsible for providing the congregation with meaningful weekly worship services and other special seasonal services. We believe that Christian worship joyfully ascribes all praise and honor, glory and power to the triune God. In worship, the people of God Acknowledge God's presence in the world, and in their lives. The committee works closely with the minister, the choir directors, and organist to plan and present the most effective services for our congregations. The Worship Committee is responsible for providing the following: - Music
- Liturgists
- Ushers for normal and special services including funerals
- Bulletins for normal and special services with updated information
- Training and providing sound system operators
- Nursery caregivers during worship services
- Flowers in the sanctuary and seasonal decorations such as Chrismon tree, Easter cross, and other decorations
- Communion elements
- Those who light the advent candle
- Visitor cards and ritual of friendship pads
- Pew bibles, pulpit bible, and hymnbooks
- Choir directors and organist and supply when they need to be away
- Special services such as Christmas eve, Holy week, Thanksgiving wedding, funerals, and vesper services
- Supply ministers when pastor will be away
- Usher and communion training
The Worship committee continues to study new options that will enhance our worship opportunities. |
