God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.  Ephesians 1:20-23 (NRSV)

CHURCH PROFILE-TIMBER RIDGE

Church Type and Demographics:  Timber Ridge is a small, rural church located about five miles north of the city of Lexington.  It is easily accessible to two major interstate highways – I 81 N/S and I 64 E/W.  The approximately 150 members of the congregation are middle class persons whose careers include farmers, blue-collar laborers, service providers, and professionals.  The income of the members ranges from fixed to upper middle.  Most members are of the middle age range, some with children or youth.  There are a number of persons of retirement age and older.

History:  Scotch-Irish settlers came to this area in the 1720’s.  By the early 1740’s, a “Presbyterian Society” was meeting in the Timber Grove Meeting House, an outpost of the John Craig, pastor of Augusta Stone and Tinkling Spring Churches.  In 1746, the Rev. John Blair visited the community and organized the “Presbyterian Society” into the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church.  Under the leadership of the first called pastor, John Brown, the church was built in 1756.  Descendents of these pioneer families have provided generations of lay leaders in the church.  Their leadership has adjusted to continual change but has remained focused on family like, education, community, and missions.  Timber Ridge people are proud of their heritage and are willing to learn from their history in order to continue to move forward.  (See more detailed history on the history pages.)

            We seek to …

… keep and improve membership so that programs can continue to build, and members do not become burned out due to constant leadership.

… make our Church activities the center of importance for families.

… maintain the interest of our youth and increase their participation, thus contributing to their social and cultural development.

… ensure that members are respected and valued.

… ensure that guests feel welcomed and experience a warm reception from all members.

... express the need and thankfulness for pastoral leadership that will fill our desire for experience and consistency; therefore, providing for the development of sound church activities that will give us continuity and stability.
